PHOENIX—Two Snow College performing art students earned top honors for their performances at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition in Phoenix, Ariz. on Jan. 14.

Makena Lenhart, a senior from Juab High who is attending Snow to earn a music degree, performed in the Senior Women Musical Theatre Competition and earned the first place honors award.

Angela Petty of Salt Lake won first place in the Senior Women Commercial Contemporary competition.

“We are proud of these students for setting the standard for our region,” Vance Larsen, Chairman of the Snow College Horne School of Music, said.

Lenhart and Petty are seeking to earn a Bachelors degree in music with an emphasis in Commercial Music Education.

The two young ladies competed with students from Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah. Students from four-year universities, such as Utah Valley University, Arizona State University and the University of Nevada Las Vegas, had also competed.

“All of the students who attended received scores high enough to qualify for the finals,” Brian Stucki, Director of Vocal Studies at the Snow College Horne School of Music said. “We are extremely pleased with how well they all represented Snow College.”

The NATS is a professional organization for singing teachers and is the largest association of its kind in the world. There are more than 6,500 members , most of which are from the United States.
