GEAR UP students (below) from Cohort 1, 2, and 3 in middle school and high school were able to participate in the Women and Girls Leadership Conference (above) at Utah Valley University on Jan. 30. At the Impact Evening for Utah Girls and Women: Mindfulness, Negative Interactions and Leadership, the girls enjoyed a keynote address from Justice Christine Durham (former chief justice, Utah Supreme Court) and workshops which taught them how to lead as young women at school, activities and in their communities.

North Sanpete High School

Members of North Sanpete High’s leadership class visited all the classes in the district last week to encourage them to participate in the food drive.

The student leadership class has kicked off a district-wide food drive which will last until March 4. All schools in the district are participating. (This is the first year for North Sanpete Middle School.)

To encourage participation, classes compete to bring in the most food. The class that does will get a party hosted by the leadership class.

At the high school, the drive kicked off on Tuesday with a video presentation of this year’s theme, Food Wars, which featured Darth Vadar trying to spread hunger throughout the galaxy pitted against Luke Skyhawker whose mission is to bring a full stomach to the galaxy.

The winning class at the high school will get special showing of “Star Wars” and popcorn served by the leadership class. All food collected will go to the Sanpete Food Pantry.
