Eric Gale “Gus” Olson

Eric Gale “Gus” Olson, 72, of Manti, passed away on Jan. 8, 2022 in Salt Lake City.

He was born May 26, 1949 Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Arthur Ernfred and Mary Isabel Clark Olson.

Eric married Joanne Marie Tetner Dec. 30, 1969.  While living in Minnesota, he made an ice-skating rink in the backyard every winter, carrying on his father’s tradition. During the summer, Eric enjoyed gardening and swimming in the pool.

As a do-it-yourselfer he excelled in vehicle and household repairs. Eric worked in creative fields from piano tuning, owning his own music shop, and designing commercial advertisements. He relocated to southern Utah with his family in 1997 where he later completed his bachelor’s degree in communication at Dixie State University.  He enjoyed documenting all of life’s events with photographs and videos.

He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he most recently served as a teacher for the 7-8 year-olds. He loved children for whom he always had a soft spot.

On July 6, 1976, Eric was sealed to wife Joanne for all of time and eternity in the Washington, D.C. Temple.

He enjoyed traveling and exploring places from ghost-towns to historical sites across the U.S. and Canada where he also visited his grandson. Eric traveled abroad to Israel, Mexico, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Germany, Russia, and Italy.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Marie Olson; children, Noah, Sarah, Rebecca, Adam (Shannon), Elizabeth, Jacob, Enoch (Shelley), and eight living grandchildren; siblings, Arthur (deceased) (Katherine), Bruce, Bonnie (deceased), Craig (Linda), Darrell (Carol), and Luann (Leno). He returns to his Heavenly parents to be greeted by his parents, eldest brother, twin siblings, and five deceased grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Stake Center in Manti, Utah, 555 East Union on Jan. 15, 2022 at 11 am.

A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Online guestbook and Livestreaming of the services available at http://www.maglebymortuary.com under Eric’s obituary.  Funeral Directors:  Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
