GUNNISON VALLEY — The Gunnison Valley boys basketball team closed out the regular-season with a 44-34 loss to North Summit on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 4-13 overall record and a 1-7 mark in Region 16.

Gunnison’s four wins on the season are the fewest in a season for the team since the 2014-15 season when it finished 2-15. That is also the last time the team won one game or less in region play.

Senior Jack Hansen led the Bulldogs in scoring against the North Summit, scoring 13 points. The Bulldogs continued to play without a few of their players, most notably their previous leading scorer, junior Jon Willden. Despite the loss, Gunnison drained six 3-pointers.

The Bulldogs held a lead after the first quarter, 10-6. However, it quickly withered away as North Summit outscored them in each of the next three quarters.

Per RPI rankings released last weekend, Gunnison claimed the No. 17 spot in final rankings, guaranteeing them a first-round road trip. The Bulldogs will travel this Wednesday to take on No. 16 Beaver in a first-round matchup.

Should Gunnison win the game, the Bulldogs will play No. 1 San Juan this Saturday.
