Jerry Keith Good

Jerry Keith Good, husband, father, papa, friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Feb. 9, 2022.

Jerry battled and survived three bouts of cancer, only to get COVID and lose the battle. Take it seriously, folks.

Jerry was born in Mayfield to Dan and Ruth Good on Dec. 30, 1943. He loved growing up in Mayfield and the mountains were his happy place.

Jerry graduated from Gunnison High School, Utah State University, and received his master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Utah. He was an avid fan with season tickets to basketball and football for over 40 years, but secretly rooted for the Aggies.

Jerry’s early career was teaching math at Kearns High School, with a cool summer job of driving the train at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. Jerry loved teaching and had a positive influence on many young minds, but after 12 years in the classroom, Hogle Zoo won out with an offer he couldn’t resist. That offer became a 45-year second career culminating as Assistant Director of Finance for the zoo. Upon his retirement, he joked that he left one Zoo for Another.

Jerry loved to travel and was the “Master Planner” of numerous amazing trips. He was happiest planning family vacations to Hawaii, Florida and California. The kids made him a Disney Fan early on.

He also enjoyed planning getaways with friends. Golf was a major part of his life. It wasn’t so much about the game, but rather the outing. He loved golfing with the “guys” every Monday and Wednesday, and on all those trips he took. He was so excited to pass his love of the game onto the next generation and see his granddaughter make the golf team in high school, and watch his grandson drive the green at 12 years old.

Jerry loved yard work … I know … but he did, and he took pride in creating a beautiful yard to enjoy.

Jerry married Linda Farmer on June 20, 1968. She says having him for a husband for 53 years was everything you could ask for. Together they worked hard to ensure their sons had every opportunity they wanted, and he was so proud of them and loved them deeply.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ruth, and is survived by his brother Leslie (Connie), sister Loretta (Bob), wife, sons: Shawn, Bryan (Amber), granddaughter Dakota, grandson Chase (both were his pride and joy), and many, many friends.

A visitation will be held on Feb. 17 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, with interment to follow.

Masks are required. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Jerry Good to Hogle Zoo, 2600 Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108 “Capital Campaign”.

“If love could have kept you alive you would have lived forever.”
