SALT LAKE CITY—Snow College’s women’s basketball team brought home two wins last week—a four-point victory against Utah State University–Eastern and an eight-point triumph over Salt Lake Community College (SLCC).
The Lady Badgers battled the Lady Golden Eagles of Eastern in Price on Thursday, Feb. 8, and finished with a narrow 65-61 victory.
Snow began the game right with an early 10-point lead and never relinquished it.
The game continued similarly until the fourth quarter, when things got interesting.
With just three minutes remaining, Eastern’s Brooklynn Barrus hit a three-pointer, bringing the score to 61-55.
In the next three minutes, the Lady Golden Eagles continued to inch closer to the Lady Badgers.
With seven seconds remaining, the scoreboard read 65-61.
Eastern’s Madison Loftus attempted one last three-pointer with just two seconds left, but Snow’s Harley Hansen blocked the shot.
Kayla Hugie led the Lady Badgers with 20 points, almost a third of the total score. Hugie was followed by Hansen and Jazmin Chavez, each contributing 11 points to the total score.
The Lady Badgers finished their week against SLCC in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Feb. 10, with a celebratory win.
After losing to SLCC twice previously in the season, Snow was finally able to redeem themselves at the third shot.
When the fourth quarter started, the Lady Badgers had a one-point lead on the Lady Bruins, but they pulled through and ended it with an eight-point win, 59-51.
“We just did what we failed to do against SLCC the last two times,” said Mike Russell, Snow’s head coach for women’s basketball.
Megan Carr led the team with the game-high of 23 points, and Madison Mooring contributed 11 points.
Working together as a team led to the triumph against SLCC, which brought Snow to a total of 20 victories this season, with only six losses.
“We are in a good spot heading down to the final stretch of the season, so hopefully we can keep playing well,” said Russell.
The Lady Badgers are in Colorado today to battle Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) for the third time this season. Snow has defeated CNCC the previous two games.
