GUNNISON—Putting a hammer-lock hold on the final playoff spot in Region 18, the girls basketball team of Gunnison Valley High School went 1-1 for the week in Region 18 play and own a crucial tiebreaker over rival Parowan going into the last week of region play.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, at home, the Lady Bulldogs pulled away after the first quarter, making 21 points in the fourth quart, thus claiming an important Region 18 win over Parowan, 53-28.
Gunnison’s Jaida King scored in double figures with 12 points and two three-pointers to lead the Lady Bulldogs in victory.
The win put Gunnison at 2-8 in Region 18 and 7-12 overall.
Even were the Lady Bulldogs to drop their final two games of the season, they still have a tiebreaker over Parowan and a much better overall record.
However, if they win even one game this week, then they will have eliminated any mathematical possibility of missing the playoffs.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Lady Bulldogs lost on the road to Kanab, 61-20.
This week, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Beaver on Tuesday (score unavailable) and then to North Sevier today to finish the season.
