SPANISH FORK—The Lady Templars’ typical defensive prowess started off the new year right last week.

The Manti girls’ basketball team notched a 41-33 win over American Leadership Academy last Thursday on the road, as they only allowed three opposing players to score.

The win moved Manti’s overall record to 6-5 as they begin to turn their attention toward Region 14.

In what was a low-scoring affair, it was senior Charlee Mandel who led the charge for Manti, using her dominating interior presence to score 13 points, while junior Heidi Jorgensen finished with 10 points. Manti led, 21-15, at the half and held ALA to only three points in the third quarter.

With non-region play mostly finished, the Lady Templars begin region play with a home matchup with Delta this Tuesday. They’ll then travel to Mt. Pleasant to take on North Sanpete this Thursday.
