MANTI—When the Manti American Legion last met, there were less than a dozen veterans in attendance.

American Legion member Ethan Colburn thinks that’s a shame, and says he is committed to bringing the legion back to life.

On Thursday, March 9, the legion will have a legion birthday dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 185 S. Main in Manti. The event is free to all veterans and their spouses.

“Please help us celebrate the 98th birthday of the Manti American Legion,” said Colburn. “Besides a great dinner, we will also have prizes.”

“Over the years, we have had many wonderful veterans, but now we are losing them,” Colburn said.

The American Legion sponsors Girls and Boys State, as well as their traditional Fourth of July breakfast.

“If anyone in Manti knows of veterans who have not joined, encourage them to come,” Colburn said. “We need their strength and their experience. Let’s not lose one of our proudest organizations ever.”

The veterans meet the second Thursday of each month. Contact Colburn at eecolburn@hotmail.com.
