MANTI—Manti and Juan Diego football teams will be left with a game less than everyone at the end of the season.
Friday’s matchup between the Templars and the Soaring Eagles was cancelled the day of competition when the Templars reported multiple positive tests for COVID-19, leading Coach Cole Meacham to cancel the contest.
According to Meacham, the match was not a forfeit for Manti, as both sides declared “no contest,” nullifying its effect on either team’s record or overall RPI. Essentially, it was wiped.
Meacham did not report whom had tested positive, both in the interest of privacy and also because it has not been disclosed to the team staff.
The game would have been a non-region matchup for the two teams, who have turned it into an enjoyable rivalry series initially birthed by their multiple playoff matchups.
Meacham expects that the Templars will be ready to go this Friday, when Manti hosts Morgan, last year’s 3A runner-up.
