TWIN FALLS, ID—In a back-and-forth opening to conference play, the Snow College Badgers dropped a hard-fought game to the College of Southern Idaho, 83-79, last Saturday.
The Badgers now sit at 10-7 for the season, and 0-1 in conference play, and slumping through a four game losing streak.
According to head coach Rob Nielson “Our kids played really hard. I was proud of how they competed. We had the lead there at the end, and then they hit that three-pointer. But it was a really good effort. We were right there the entire game. We had our chance at the end. We just had to make one more stop and we came up a little short. We’ll just get back home and get ready for Salt Lake [Community College] next Saturday.”
The game featured 18 lead changes and 15 tied scores. Both teams struggled to maintain a lead, and the largest lead in the game was only eght points. In a game so tight, the Badgers only shot eight free throws (making all of them), while CSI shot 26. But Coach Nielson did not blame the officiating for the disparity in fouls.
“They’re a faster team than we are, and I think we ended up reaching too much in an effort to slow them down.” Otherwise, the teams were very evenly matched.
Stockton Shorts and Jake Walker led the Badgers with 17 points each, and Logan Hokanson chipped in 15. Traycer Wilson led the Badgers in rebounds with nine.
Snow’s next game will be at home in the Horne Activity Center, another conference tilt versus Salt Lake Community College on Saturday at 7 pm.
