TAYLORSVILLE—A short-handed Snow College men’s basketball team went on the road last week and struggled against Utah State University–Eastern and Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Scenic West Athletic Conference action.

Romain Boxus, a season-long starter for the Badgers, did not make the road trip with the team, rehabbing from injury. According to Snow’s coach, Rob Nielson, Boxus should be able to rejoin the lineup this week, but his absence was sorely felt last week.

In its game against Eastern on Thursday, Feb. 8, in Price, the Badgers fell behind early and could not catch up, losing 90-73.

Snow’s shooting was very cold (34 percent for the game). Though the Badgers’ Stockton Shorts had a career-high game with 32 points on 9-17 shooting and 12-13 from the charity stripe, no other Badger scored in double figures.

Against SLCC in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Feb. 10, the Badgers again had a bad shooting night, only getting 35.7 percent from the field, including a dismal 19 percent from three-point range.

Meanwhile, the Bruins, “a very good team” according to Nielson, shot over 50 percent both from the field and from three-point range.

“I thought we played very well against SLCC for the first 24 minutes. Then they got hot from outside and hit a bunch of threes,” said Nielson.

In the end, the Badgers lost by 27 points, 87-60.

Nick Houston led the Badgers with 10 points for the game, but no other Badger broke into double figures.

The Badgers remain on the road this week, going to Colorado to face Colorado Northwestern College today.

Next week, they travel to College of Southern Idaho on Thursday, Feb. 22, before finally coming home to host USU–Eastern on Saturday, Feb. 24.
