Snow resumes sports schedule
EPHRAIM—For the first time since stopping play due to COVID-19, Snow College athletic teams will return to official competition this week.
On the men’s side, the basketball team will kick off the 2020-2021 season in Arizona.
On the women’s side, the basketball team will compete in Twin Falls and the volleyball team will travel to Texas, according to Jeff Reynolds, Snow College athletics communication director.
The men’s basketball team will begin competition on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Yuma, Ariz., at Arizona Western, followed by a game on Friday, Jan. 22 at Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. The Badgers will complete their three-day road trip with a game on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Central Arizona, Reynolds stated in a press release.
The Lady Badgers will play a pair of games this week in Twin Falls, Idaho at the College of Southern Idaho. They will play their season opener against Bella Vista Prep on Friday, Jan. 22, at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 23, Snow will take on Casper College at 1:30 p.m.
For the women’s volleyball team, the season-opening tournament was originally scheduled to be played at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M.; however, state-imposed restrictions forced the school to move the tournament to Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. Having their regular fall season postponed, the Badgers will now open the season on Friday, Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. against Vernon College, followed by a 7 p.m. match against Missouri State West Plains. On Saturday, Snow will take on the defending NJCAA National Champions from Navarro College at 1 p.m. The final match of the tournament will be against Midland College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Teams will be required to comply with a number of new policies and procedures designed to protect team members, coaching staff and spectators from contracting or spreading COVID-19, Reynolds stated. This includes daily screenings, social distancing, masks, limited or no fans and weekly testing.
