Fairview library launches 24/7 book lockers in Spring City and Indianola

A new 24/7 self-service library locker stands near the Spring City post office, allowing patrons with a Fairview City Library card to pick up reserved materials and return items at any time of day.

FAIRVIEW — Residents in Spring City and Indianola now have around-the-clock access to library materials through new self-service lockers installed by the Fairview City Library.

Library officials announced Feb. 23 that the system allows patrons to pick up reserved books, DVDs and other materials at any time of day. The lockers also accept returns.

The project is a partnership between the library, the Utah State Library Division and local officials in Spring City and Indianola.

The Spring City locker is located near the post office. The Indianola locker sits on the east side of the Indianola Valley Fire Station.

Library Director Jane DeGroff said the goal is to improve access for residents who live outside Fairview or who cannot visit during regular business hours.

“In rural areas, it’s difficult to find time to drive to the library,” DeGroff said. “The book lockers will make checking out materials more convenient. The locations of the book lockers allow patrons access to the library as part of their normal daily routine.”

Patrons must have a Fairview City Library card to use the lockers. Materials can be placed on hold through the Aspen app, the library’s website or by calling during business hours. Once a hold is ready, the patron receives a pickup code, which is entered at the locker to retrieve items.

Officials said the lockers are designed to be weather-resistant and secure, keeping materials protected until pickup. Returns can also be dropped directly into the lockers.

Library staff described the system as particularly useful for residents who work nontraditional hours, juggle family schedules or prefer contact-free service.
