Lady Hawks extend region win streak with Union, Carbon victories

MT. PLEASANT — The North Sanpete High School girls basketball team continued its dominant run through 3A Region 13 play last week, picking up back-to-back wins over Union and Carbon to extend an unbeaten region streak.

North Sanpete earned a 62-38 road win at Union on Jan. 27, then followed two nights later with a 68-47 home victory over Carbon.
The Lady Hawks took control early against Union, building a nine-point lead after the first quarter and widening the gap before halftime.

North Sanpete outscored Union 20-5 in the second quarter to take a 34-15 lead into the break and never let the margin drop into single digits the rest of the way.

North Sanpete held Union to 38 points for the game, limiting scoring opportunities and closing strong with a 20-point fourth quarter to seal the road win.

The Lady Hawks carried that momentum into their home matchup against Carbon on Jan. 29. After a tight first half, North Sanpete broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Carbon 21-6 to take control. The Hawks maintained steady pressure down the stretch to finish with the 21-point win.

The two victories improved North Sanpete’s overall record to 16-5 and pushed the Hawks to 7-0 in Region 13 play. The wins marked the team’s seventh straight region victory, a streak that includes wins over Manti, Union, Carbon, Emery, and Richfield during January.

North Sanpete has now won nine of its last 10 games overall and remains unbeaten at home this season.

The Lady Hawks are scheduled to travel to Emery on Tuesday before closing the regular season at home against Juab on Feb. 5.
