Manti High students brighten Valentine’s Day for local veterans

MANTI — Students at Manti High School helped brighten Valentine’s Day for local veterans with handwritten messages that were displayed at American Legion Post 31 during a community dinner.
Manti High School students from Susan Hatch’s class wrote messages on valentines that were delivered to the American Legion Hall. The cards were posted on a decorated door and inside the building ahead of the event.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 31 hosted a Valentine’s dinner for area veterans, drawing about 25 attendees, according to American Legion 31 Auxiliary President Donna Birk. The MHS valentines were a central part of the decor.
“It was received very kindly by our veterans,” Birk told the Messenger.
Before dinner was served, Post 31 Commander Bruce Ericksen photographed the display and read several of the students’ messages aloud to those gathered.
Birk said the students’ involvement added a personal touch to the evening and connected generations through simple, handwritten words of thanks.
