North Sanpete boys build momentum with back-to-back Region 13 wins

MT. PLEASANT — The North Sanpete High School boys basketball team closed January with consecutive Region 13 victories, defeating Union at home before earning a road win at Carbon to snap a mid-season slide.

North Sanpete opened the stretch Jan. 28 with a 69-55 home win over Union. The Hawks used a balanced scoring effort and consistent defensive pressure to pull away after halftime and secure the region victory.

Two nights later, North Sanpete carried that momentum on the road, beating Carbon 65-55 on Jan. 30 in Price.

The Hawks overcame a four-point deficit after the first quarter and took control in the second, outscoring Carbon 20-9 to build a seven-point halftime lead. North Sanpete continued to apply pressure after the break, extending the margin with a 17-13 third quarter and matching Carbon point-for-point down the stretch to seal the win.

Gunner Pollock led North Sanpete with seven points in the Carbon win, while Bryce Swapp added three points and dished out four assists. Milo Hendry provided efficient scoring inside, finishing with four points on perfect shooting, and Maddox Madsen chipped in four points.
North Sanpete’s defense played a key role, forcing turnovers and limiting Carbon’s scoring runs, particularly in the second quarter. The Hawks also made the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 15 of 18 attempts.

The back-to-back wins improved North Sanpete’s overall record to 9-12 and moved the Hawks to 2-5 in Region 13 play.

North Sanpete was scheduled to return home Tuesday to host Emery before closing the regular season against Juab later in the week. Look for coverage on those games next issue.
