Sanpete Theater Company, our area’s has launched its Summer Youth Theater Camp, a two-week intensive program designed to give Sanpete County youth a full production experience while building life skills through the performing arts.
The nonprofit organization states that it provides high-quality theatrical experiences for residents of Sanpete County, with a special emphasis on youth development. Through theater arts education and production, the group aims to help participants develop communication, collaboration, leadership, critical thinking, confidence and empathy.
The 2026 Summer Youth Theater Camp will run June 1–15 and is open to youth ages 10 to 18. Camp sessions are scheduled Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with performances set for June 13 and June 15. This year’s production will be Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.”
The camp will be sponsored by and held at Manti High School. Because the organization does not have its own facility, it relies on public spaces throughout the county. Recent productions have been staged at Fairview Peterson Dance Hall and Manti High School.
Registration for the 2026 camp opens March 1. Participation will cost about $200 per student this year. Organizers note that a previous grant partnership that allowed for discounted fees is no longer available and that most of this year’s expenses will be covered by registration fees. The company states it is seeking additional grants and sponsorships to reduce costs for families.
Sanpete Theater Company formed out of years of youth productions led by Amanda Hansen, who serves as STC director and youth camp director. Hansen has been involved in youth theater productions for more than 12 years and, since moving to Sanpete County in 2020, has collaborated with local organizations to produce eight youth productions involving hundreds of young performers.
The leadership team also includes Music Director Doug Knapp and Stage Manager Debi James, along with Youth Camp Costumer and Stage Manager Emmalee Hansen. The organization describes its team as a community-focused collective of theater professionals and educators dedicated to nurturing the next generation of performers in Sanpete County.
In recent years, the group has staged Disney’s “Jungle Book Kids” in 2022, Disney’s “Lion King Jr.” in 2023, Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” in 2024 and “Honk Jr.” in 2025, in collaboration with partners such as Youth Leaders for America, North Bend Entertainers, Ephraim City and Manti High School.
