Why Subscribe to the Sanpete Messenger?
The Sanpete Messenger, formerly the Manti Messenger, has a great legacy. The paper has been published continuously since 1893—that’s 133 years.
We are recognized as one of the best, if not the best, independent weekly newspapers in Utah. We have won the statewide general excellence award (highest award) in our circulation category in 14 of the 19 years in which we have entered the competition since 2001. And we have won at least eight national awards.
A typical issue has 30 articles, including coverage of county commission and town council actions, a community calendar, obituaries, feature stories on people who make exceptional contributions to the county, school boards, outstanding educational programs in schools, and sports teams at our high schools and college.
Over the past 25 years under the current publisher, the Sanpete Messenger has placed special emphasis on supporting community causes and individuals. That includes publicizing such causes—and donating ourselves, either as individual staff members or as a business.
During one month (July 2025), Messenger published 34 government and community-related articles or notices, ranging from the senior menu at senior centers; to donated advertising and publishing an article about a major annual fund raiser for the Sanpete Pantry (the local food bank); to coverage of a program on “Building connections through kindness” that Miss Sanpete County’s Teen presented at middle and high schools; to profiles of 10 grand marshals selected for their lifetime service to their communities.
A typical example of a new resident who decided to subscribe was an avid bicyclist
and called to thank our publisher for a front-page article about formation of the Bicycle Sanpete group. The caller asked what it would cost to get an E-subscription to the paper.
When our publisher quoted him the price, he hesitated. But she told him, “If you want to be part of Sanpete County, you really need to take your community newspaper.”
He said, “I do want to be part of community life here.” He subscribed. A few days later, a postcard arrived saying, “Thank you for your assistance (and) service. I’m excited to be a subscriber to the Sanpete Messenger.”
