Eight injured, two seriously, in an accident on S.R. 132 in Moroni after vehicle crosses center line

      MORONI—Two people were seriously injured while six others received moderate to minor injuries in a three-car accident on Duck Spring Drive in Moroni last Saturday afternoon, April 16.

      Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman, said the accident happened about 1:10 p.m. when a red Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Stephanie Martinez, 34, of Moroni was traveling southbound on Duck Springs Drive (also known as S.R. 132).

      He said Martinez was possibly distracted because she crossed the center line and was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

      A silver Ford Fusion driven by Ryan Farr, 47, of Spring City, was traveling northbound, swerved to avoid a collision with the Cobalt, and went off the right side of the road, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

      A red Kia Optima, driven by Graciela Corona,32, of Ephraim, was traveling northbound behind Farr and swerved to the left in an attempt to miss Martinez’s car. Martinez struck Corona’s vehicle on the front passenger side.

      Neither Martinez nor her passenger in the Cobalt was wearing a seatbelt. According to Roden, Martinez was transported by helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, while the passenger was transported by ambulance to Sanpete Valley Hospital, both in serious condition.

                Roden said Corona’s vehicle had six passengers. All were transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Everyone in the Corona car was wearing a seatbelt, including two young boys who were sharing a seatbelt.
