Badgers fall in Region 18 basketball championship, head to NJCAA tourney

Sophomore Badger Brock McClure (No. 23) makes his way around a defender from North Idaho College on Jan. 29 at home. McClure, a guard for Snow College, led his team with 17 points at the NJCAA Region 18 championship match on March 7. He also led the Badgers in rebounds with 14. For his efforts, he garnered a spot on the region’s All-Tournament Team.

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO — The Snow College men’s basketball team are headed to the NJCAA basketball tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas as the No. 9 seed after coming within arm’s reach of a NJCAA Region 18 championship on Saturday, March 7. The Badgers fell just short in a gritty 64-60 loss to third-ranked College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho.

In a regional title game that lived up to its championship billing, Snow and Southern Idaho traded blows throughout the evening, with neither team able to create much separation as the clock ticked off the final minutes. With the score tied at 57 and the tension mounting inside the arena, the Golden Eagles delivered the decisive moment.

Southern Idaho knocked down a clutch three-pointer with 51 seconds remaining to break the deadlock and seize the momentum. After forcing a defensive stop on the ensuing possession, the Golden Eagles calmly stepped to the free-throw line and converted two shots with 30 seconds left, stretching their lead and putting the Badgers in chase mode down the stretch.

Snow still had opportunities to rally. However, a missed three-point attempt on the next possession allowed Southern Idaho to secure the rebound and return to the foul line. Two more free throws with 12 seconds remaining pushed the lead to seven and effectively sealed the outcome.

The Badgers refused to go quietly, however. Snow connected on a three-pointer with five seconds left to cut into the deficit, but the comeback bid ran out of time as the final horn sounded.

One of the key differences in the contest came at the free-throw line. Southern Idaho capitalized on its opportunities, converting 15 of 19 attempts (79 percent), while Snow finished 9-of-15 (60 percent).

Brock McClure led the Badgers with 17 points and delivered a dominant performance on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds to lead all players. Toombs added 13 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while McClure knocked down two of his four attempts from three-point range. On the defensive end, Sam Sivulich contributed three steals to help keep Snow within striking distance throughout the contest.

Snow entered postseason play after dropping two consecutive games for the first time since 2024, falling 79-69 to North Idaho College before closing the regular season with a 71-66 loss to the No. 3-ranked Golden Eagles.

Despite the narrow championship loss, the Badgers’ postseason run earned individual recognition. McClure and McCaden Adams were both named to the Region 18 All-Tournament Team.

Snow also saw multiple players recognized for their performance during the 2025-26 season in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. Adams and McClure earned First-Team All-Conference honors, while Sean Felts was named to the Second Team.

Adams led the conference in scoring this season, averaging 17.7 points per game while adding 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists. McClure averaged 15.0 points per game and led the SWAC in rebounding with 8.8 boards per contest, totaling 251 rebounds on the year. Felts averaged 12.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 58 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range.

Snow closed out the 2025-26 season with an impressive 28-4 overall record, finishing with a .875 winning percentage and a 12-3 mark in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Badgers were especially strong at home, going a perfect 13-0 inside the Horne Activity Center.

Snow (No. 9) will face Trinidad State College’s Trojans (No. 24) on Sunday, March 22 at 12 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. A win against Trinidad would send the Badgers to a contest with Butler Community College (No. 8) on Tuesday, March 24.
