EPHRAIM—The Snow College Badgers opened the 2026 football season with a 31-17 victory over No. 10 Garden City Community College (Kansas) on Saturday in Ephraim, proving the Broncbusters truly weren’t in Kansas anymore.
MANTI—Last Friday night gave Sanpete County football plenty to celebrate as Manti, North Sanpete and Gunnison Valley all picked up victories. Manti rolled past Juan Diego Catholic 54-7, North Sanpete rallied to edge Deseret Peak 22-21 in overtime and Gunnison Valley earned its first win of the season with a 22-18 victory over Providence Hall.
PAYSON—North Sanpete overcame an early deficit Wednesday, Aug. 19, to earn a 3-1 nonconference volleyball victory over Payson.
MOAB-The Lady Templars defeated the Lady Red Devils 8-0 to go 4-1 on the season. Manti’s next match will be Aug. 25 as the Lady Templars host Juab.
MANTI—Manti quarterback Kingston Wright threw for 525 yards and three touchdowns, but Pine View came away with a 44-28 victory over the Templars in Manti’s season opener on Friday, Aug. 14.

SPRING CITY—Sometimes great athletes come from small towns. Such is the case with 15-year-old Leighton Johansen of Spring City, who is attracting attention in Utah’s track and field community after an impressive freshman season highlighted by a region championship, a state medal and a berth at the National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.
EPHRAIM—Snow College has been picked to finish fourth in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference coaches preseason poll and third in the media preseason poll ahead of its first season in the conference.

PROVO—Former Manti High School standout Reggie Frischknecht has joined the BYU football program after a record-setting junior college season at Snow College and a spring stint at Weber State.
MANTI—Thirty-seven players from across Utah competed in the annual Manti City Fourth of July Tennis Tournament, highlighted by competitive play in both doubles and a singles tiebreaker matchup.
