Spring City Canyon Road closes Mondays through Thursdays for construction

SPRING CITY—Spring City Canyon Road and several connected forest roads above Spring City are closed Mondays through Thursdays through July 2 as the U.S. Forest Service carries out construction and road improvement work in the canyon.

The closure took effect at noon on Monday, April 20, under Forest Order 04-10-26-01-01.

According to the Manti-La Sal National Forest, the weekly closure will remain in place from noon April 20 through 5 p.m. July 2 unless the order is rescinded. The agency said the closure was put in place for public safety while crews work on Spring City Canyon Road in Sanpete County.

The closure applies to Forest Road 0036, also known as Spring City Canyon Road, from the forest boundary to its junction with Forest Road 0150, or Skyline Drive. It also covers the full length of Forest roads 1080, 1218, 0270 and 1168.

The order prohibits the public from being on those roads during the closure period. Exemptions include people holding a Forest Service permit specifically allowing access, Forest Service and contracted road crews working on the roadway, and federal, state, or local officers, along with organized rescue or firefighting personnel performing official duties.

For Spring City residents and others who use the canyon as a route into the mountains, the closure affects one of the main access roads above the community as spring and summer travel begins to pick up.

The order states that violations can be prosecuted as a Class B misdemeanor, carrying possible fines of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, along with up to six months in jail.
