Hawks hold off Canyon View for 21-13 win

MT. PLEASANT—The game was slipping away from North Sanpete.

After controlling much of the night, the Hawks watched their comfortable lead shrink to a single point in the fourth quarter. Canyon View had the momentum, the crowd had the tension and North Sanpete suddenly needed an answer.

Luke Lee provided it.

With 1:34 remaining, Lee broke loose for an 8-yard touchdown run, giving the Hawks the breathing room they needed and North Sanpete a 21-13 victory over Canyon View on Friday night.

The win moved the Hawks to 4-1 on the season and kept them unbeaten in the game’s biggest moments.

North Sanpete had established control early behind its running game. Trevor Mann found the end zone twice in the first half, scoring on runs of 3 and 5 yards to help the Hawks build a 14-0 advantage.

Canyon View finally answered before halftime when Camden Sheridan scored on a 1-yard run with 1:47 remaining in the second quarter. The Falcons went into halftime trailing 14-7.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, setting up a tense final 12 minutes.

Canyon View made its move when Bryson Barnes connected with Owen Williams on a 49-yard touchdown pass with 11:02 left in the fourth quarter. The Falcons missed the extra point, leaving North Sanpete with a narrow 14-13 advantage.

The Hawks refused to give Canyon View another opportunity.

Lee’s touchdown run with 1:34 remaining restored North Sanpete’s eight-point cushion, and Gunner Pollock added the extra point.

North Sanpete’s defense then finished the job, penciling in the 21-13 victory and giving the Hawks their fourth win of the season.

The Hawks (4-1, 1-1) will face Cedar (3-2, 1-0) on the road tomorrow night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Cedar City.
