Ada Marlene Noakes Porter Holman, 81, of Springville, died peacefully in her home on July 9, 2022.

Ada Marlene Noakes Porter Holman

Born April 26, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant to Wendell and Ethel Noakes, she was later adopted and sealed to her parents, Ethel and Vernon Griffin Porter on Dec. 23, 1946, in the Manti Temple.

On May 13, 1960, Marlene married Gary Leon Holman in the Manti Temple. They began their marriage in Roy where she worked for Morton Thiokol, later moving to Manti to create and manage the Palisade Golf Course. After Gary’s passing at the age of 40, Marlene worked for Snow College as the Director of Housing and then the Graduation Director.

She was fiercely independent her entire life but loved to spend time with family and friends. Her attention to detail meant she always had a compliment for you. She also loved to talk about all the wonderful things her family was accomplishing! She was so proud of her family and loved them dearly.

Marlene also had a deep love for reading. She always had a book in tow and a few recommendations for your next read. As a lifelong learner, she particularly loved learning about politics and shared this passion with the many women she served in the Miss Utah program. Whether organizing a pageant or coaching candidates, she always found a way to connect with each individual woman and make her a better person.

Marlene was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and always had a smile, a treat and often some kind of gift that she couldn’t wait to give. Her charisma and kindness were cherished and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by one son and three daughters: Kevin Holman, Holladay; Toni Schoenborn (Jim), Sandy; Christine Cook (Scott), Spanish Fork; Holly Love (Andy Odom), Bountiful; three brothers and two sisters, Michael V. Porter, Mt. Pleasant; Ronald K. Porter, Mt. Pleasant; Helen Howell, Springville; Lee Anne Edwards, W. Bountiful; Edwin H. Porter, Fayetteville, North Carolina, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gary.

A viewing will be held Friday, July 15, 6-8 p.m., in the Berg Mortuary, 500 North State St. #3804, Orem. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at the Manti City Cemetery.
