GUNNISON— The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has built and installed two new pavilions at the Gunnison Reservoir on the west side.

BLM Recreation Director Graydon Bascom said he was excited to get the structures up and ready for use after roughly four years of devel- opment. He was able to apply for and received $25,000 in correction action money for the project along with some infrastructure money which was used for the concrete.

“The previous pavilions were located too far up the hillside and were not handicap-accessible,” Bascom said.

The new pavilions reside alongside the bike trail which has 10 of the 26 approved miles complete and ready for recreation. Both of them are equipped with picnic tables and attached benches with a barbecue grill off to the side. Although the grills cannot be used currently under the state fire restrictions, Bascom said they are free to use oncethe restrictions are lifted. The sights are free to use on a first come, first serve basis. Bascom said he hopesthat people will use them, respect them and appreciate a nice shady place to sit.
