Charmaine Chappell Atwell

Charmaine Chappell Atwell

Our loving mother Charmaine Chappell Atwell, age 84 passed away on Sept. 1, 2021 at Our House in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on April 17, 1937 in Provo, to Walter and Dora Chappell. She grew up in Provo.

Charmaine worked for the Forest Service, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a mother of eight children.

The gospel was the most important part of her life. Her favorite saying was “What Would Jesus Do.” One of her favorite callings in the church was being an Activity Day Leader. She was loved by all the ward members.

When she worked for the Forest Service, she made friends with several people from around the world who gave her the nickname Mountain Angel. She was known for her sewing. She sewed all eight of her kids clothes and many doll clothes. She canned everything from vegetables to fruit and jam for family and friends.

Mom had a special gift that made all her family and friends feel beautiful and unique in the world. Her grandkids and great grandkids were everything to her. She raised many foster kids, not just making them feel like family but to be family. Mom enjoyed her family home evening group, where she loved to host and cook for them.

She delivered meals for the seniors (which she didn’t think she was one of them. Even though the family grew up with little money, she made sure that every holiday was done with traditional home cooked meals, goodies and decorations.

Her closest friend was her sister (Laurel). The two of them were hilarious, making everyone around them bust up laughing. Her many nieces, nephews and grandkids referred to her as White-haired Grandma. Her smile was infectious.

She is survived by her children; Connie Vetsch Milford; Pierre Beebe (Laurie) Milford; Mary Jo Holm (Rodney) Milford; Michelle Williams Cedar City; Risa Beebe (Jerry Trahan) Fairview; Phillip Beebe (Kandy) Fairview; James Beebe (Lisa) Fairview; her 22 Grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; her sister Laurel Skaggs, Aubrey, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
