Darrel Terry Tuttle

Darrel Terry Tuttle, 94, passed in his lifelong home in Manti, Utah, on Aug. 11, 2026. Born June 30, 1932, he was the third born of six children to Elmer Clark Tuttle and Helen B. Jorgensen.

He is survived by a younger sister, Marcia (Carpenter) of Springville, Utah, and many nieces, nephews, their children, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, sisters LaRue (Oberg) and Kathleen (Williams), and brothers Edwin and David.

For Darrel, school was boring as he could figure out problems in his head before the teacher finished explaining the assignment. He was all of twelve years old when he started his own herd on his father’s cattle ranch. Those problem-solving skills served him well in the Air Force, where, at the age of 22, Darrel’s first assignment was at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

Except for his time in the Air Force and later at Hill Field Air Base, he lived the life of a cattle farmer alongside his father. Completing his four years of service in the Air Force, he attended Snow College in Ephraim for two years to earn his associate degree before attending Utah State Agriculture College in Logan, Utah, to obtain a bachelor’s degree in engineering. After Darrel received his engineering degree, he was accepted at Hill Air Force Base.

Four-plus years later, Darrel left Hill Field to take over the family farm in Manti. As much as his work at Hill Field meant to him, the farm was home. He worked on his farm until retirement, after which much of his time was spent with family and loved ones.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Darrel’s neighbors who assisted him in his later years with yard cleanup, snow removal, and such. A small graveside service is planned for Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at 1 p.m., at the Manti City Cemetery with military honors.
