RICHFIELD—Eight Manti High School students have received $500 scholarships for career-technical education (CTE) programs at Snow College at Richfield.
The recipients are Donald Southworth, Russell Bean, Arturo Ruiz, Aireal Mower, Chloe Barnes, Dessa Estey, Keely Bertelson and Dakota Dummar.
To qualify for the scholarships, the students had to complete three credits (equivalent to three full-year courses) at Manti High in a CTE “pathway.”

Qualifying pathways included agricultural mechanics, automotive technology, composites, construction technology and management, diesel technology, industrial mechanics, machine tool technology and welding technology.
The students can use their scholarships to continue studying in a related CTE program at Snow-Richfield. The Snow programs are agricultural mechanics, architectural design, auto mechanics, diesel engineering, construction and structural design, manufacturing and production, welding and machining, and mechanical design.
All of the programs have been identified as meeting needs of employers in Central Utah.
During their trip to the campus, students met with college faculty and staff, toured labs and took part in hands-on activities in multiple program areas.
In addition, representatives from Airgas, Great Lakes Cheese, Industrial Injections and Jorgensen Ford met with the students.
The students also participated in a program and luncheon during which they were called up individually to receive scholarship certificates.
“We are incredibly committed to helping all students in our region connect with job opportunities,” said Stacee McIff, vice president for career-technical education at Snow. “Many high-demand, high-paying jobs require only two or three semesters of training.
“In addition to awarding scholarships, we have also reduced the tuition costs for students pursuing technical certificates.”
