Emery edges Manti in road loss

CASTLE DALE — The Manti High School boys basketball team dropped a close 3A Region 13 road game Wednesday, falling 59-57 to Emery at Emery High School.

The game stayed tight throughout, with the teams tied 11-11 after the first quarter. Emery carried a one-point edge into halftime and outscored Manti 17-13 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Manti kept pace through the middle quarters, matching Emery point for point in the third, but could not close the gap late as the Spartans pulled ahead down the stretch.

The loss dropped Manti to 8-13 overall and 4-2 in Region 13 play. Emery improved to 12-8 overall.

Despite the setback, Manti remained competitive in region play after recent wins over Union, North Sanpete and Carbon earlier in January.

The Templars return home Wednesday to host Carbon in another Region 13 matchup before closing the regular season Friday at Union.
