Next week is School Lunch Week.

Today during flex time (9:35-10 a.m.) interested students can find out information about a career in helicopters at an assembly in the auditorium.

Friday there will be a pep assembly in the Main Gym, 1:50-2:30 p.m.

Saturday is the PTA Fall Festival from 12-2 p.m. on the field west of the school (or in the school gym if the weather is bad). Wristbands may be purchased for $5 at the entrance.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the fifth grade attended the STEM Fest at the South Towne Expo in Sandy. Students enjoyed hands-on experiences with science and technology and learned about future career opportunities in those fields.

For School Lunch Week next week, parents and guests can visit and eat school lunch with their child on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.  The menu features chicken nuggets on Monday, Oct. 9; orange chicken on Wednesday, Oct. 11; and pizza rippers on Thursday, Oct. 12.  The kitchen requests that no outside fast food be brought in during School Lunch Week.

The Parent Involvement Committee is holding a Little Caesar’s Pizza fundraiser. Wednesday, Oct. 11 is Pizza Delivery Day.

Coming up next week, the fifth grade will present its U.S.A. historical play for parents and the other students at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, and 12:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13.

Gunnison Valley High students (L-R) Jade Wimmer, Alexander Stewart, Mia Condie and Ethan Hammond stack some of the more than $600-worth of young-adult books acquired for the school library with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Homecoming festivities will wrap up this Saturday with the Homecoming Dance at 8 p.m. at the school.

The school recently held its annual Run for Your Life 5K. Nearly 200 students participated. “It was a beautiful fall morning for a run with amazing Sanpete views. The very best of these views from my vantage point was nearly 200 students enjoying some healthy physical activity together and completing something difficult,” Principal Tim Miller said. Top finishers were: (boys, l. to r.) Talon Rasmussen, Tyler Taggart and Trevor Taggart, and (girls, l. to r.) Keltsy Fowles, Bethany Christensen and Hannah Zedicher.
