New York City-based jazz musician, Kassa Overall, is coming to Snow College as part of the 2022 Snow College Jazz Festival and will also perform as part of Snow College’s Convocation series.

Overall has released four albums that have been praised by many different critics, and he has been touring and recording as a sideman drummer for the last 20 years with artists such as Geri Allen and Vijay Iyer.

The jazz festival, which will take place at the Eccles Center of the Performing Arts on Feb. 8, is open to all middle school, junior high, and high school students as they are invited to perform in their ensembles.

The festival is a cooperative experience, meaning that there is no winner and each ensemble will have their own performance slot.

Afterwards, students will be treated to a clinic to work with special guests like Overall and some faculty hosting the event. The admission for any group or school who wants to participate is $150.

The festival will have other special guests besides Overall working with the ensembles, including Chase Baird, who is a saxophone player and composer; Phil Kuehn, who is the Director of Jazz Studies at Snow College; and Matt Wiedner, who is a jazz pianist and educator.

Overall will also be performing at Snow College’s Convocation on Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The series showcases many different artists and presenters, which will provide an incredible experience for attendees.
