Mary Lula Garlick, 85, reunited with her husband and daughter on Sunday Nov. 14, 2021.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1936, the only daughter of Evan Auer and Lura Morley Beck. She attended North Sanpete High School, where she was cheerleader for the North Sanpete Rams. She worked for Mountain Bell as a switchboard operator after graduation alongside her mother until the dial phones came out.
She married Calvin Rex Garlick on March 22, 1958, and they were later sealed in the Manti Temple on June 4, 1964. She worked side by side with her husband on their family farm despite suffering crippling arthritis.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many capacities including Relief Society President and Manti Temple ordinance worker.
She spent her life in the service of others. Despite being in pain on a daily basis and going through multiple surgeries, she never sat idle. She enjoyed delivering treats to her neighbors, playing card games, watching the Utah Jazz and anything BYU. She spent many years involved in humanitarian work. When her health would no longer allow her body to do much of anything, she would fill her days making yarn hats to give to homeless shelters and cancer patients.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Rex Garlick; her daughter, Mary Ann Sorenson; her parents, Evan Auer and Lura Morley Beck; and her brothers, Dr. Wallace Evan, Wayne George, Robert H., and Paul Auer Beck. Survived by her children Becky (Barry) Olsen, Robert (Janeen) and Nancy Garlick; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
A family and close friends service will be held at the Rasmussen Mortuary on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with interment at the Fairview City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local humanitarian service. Please attend services and leave condolences by using the link at rasmussenmortuary.com in her obituary.
