MT. PLEASANT—Ready to rock out to the AC-DC hit song “Back in Black,” this year’s Homecoming theme, students at North Sanpete High School are already dressed up and taking part in the many activities for Homecoming Week, which started on Monday, Sept. 27 and will end on Saturday, Oct. 2.

North Sanpete High School students are dressing up and getting ready for the “blackout” football game against their rival Manti High on Friday night for Homecoming Week.

A highlight of Homecoming will be the big football game football game against arch-rival Manti at 7 p.m. The game will be a “blackout” game and all the spectators will be wearing black, said assistant principal Natalie Stansfield.

The cheerleaders have already decorated school offices and halls and the students are showing creative ways to dress up, Stansfield said. Monday is red, white and blue dress up day; Tuesday is tacky tourist day; Wednesday is runway day; Thursday is throwback day; and Friday is spirit day, where 9th and 11th graders wear red and 10th and 12th graders wear white. Everyone will then change into their blackest garb for the Homecoming parade at 4 p.m. on Friday and get primed for football game at the tailgate party at 4:30 p.m.

The school has a full line up of activities scheduled for the week, similar to pre-COVID years, Stansfield said. A favorite event for the students will be the movie at the Basin Drive In on Wednesday night. The movie “Shrek” will be shown and the gates open at 7:45 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.

On Friday, Homecoming week reaches a crescendo and several important activities are planned. Toast the Templars kicks off the day at 7:30 a.m. Then there is a Hawk strong service project at 9:15 a.m.

The Homecoming parade starts off at 4 p.m. at 200 North and heads south to the Maverik. All the students clubs are involved this year and many businesses are participating in the parade as well, Stansfield said.

Everyone is welcome to come to the tailgate party in the school parking lot at 4:30 p.m. The Hawks football game kicks off at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, a semi-formal boy’s choice Homecoming Dance will be held from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the auxiliary gym. The cost is $12 per couple or $6 per single.
