Richard “Dick” Nolan Oswald

On Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, Dick saddled up his horse and rode away for one last ride to Trailridge before making his final destination. Dick passed away with the love of his life, Bonnie, by his side at their home in Fairview, Utah.

Dick was born to Nolan C. Oswald and Lois Thorton Oswald on Dec. 2, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dick graduated from Olympus High School in 1957. He joined the United States Army Reserve in 1957 and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1964. He married Shirley Ann Mark on Aug. 2, 1958, and together they had two sons, Joel and Jono.

Dick rode with the Ute Rangers on his horse, Stranger. He and his dad, Nolan, were flag carriers, riding in many parades and events around the Intermountain West.

Dick was a printer by trade for over 40 years, owning and operating Intermountain Litho for 19 years alongside his son, Joel.

On March 1, 1985, Dick started his life with his love, Bonnie, and they made a home together in Fairview, Utah. Together they had many adventures, and yearly river rafting trips with the Printing Club was one of them.

Dick was in his true heaven when on Trailridge, where he hunted elk for over 50 years, always at the same hidden camp spot. There he taught many of the boys and Bonnie to know the mountain, where there wasn’t a trail or dirt road his Toyota or 4-wheeler hadn’t been or a mountainside he and his horse hadn’t rode. Dick was one of the last true cowboys left; he worked hard, grew the most amazing gardens each year, enjoyed many adventures with Bonnie and loved the home they shared together in Fairview.

Remember, “If you’re in the woods, burn wood.” We will forever miss you, Bonnie’s sweetheart, our Dick O, Dad, Grandpa and Pops.

P.S. Hey Pops, Mom will know where to find you.

Dick is survived by the love of his life, Bonnie East Oswald; his children, Joe (Kim) Oswald, Jono Oswald, Steve (Erica) East, Billy (Sheron) East, DeAnna Bailey (Andy Hansen) and BonnieLee (Cody) Nordell; brother, Kenny (Marilyn) Oswald; 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Many thanks to Mom (Bonnie) for the years she cared for Pops, never leaving his side. To Irene Allred and Martha Bronson for all your loving care, and to His Lil’ Muffin who helped him find Jesus!

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at Rasmussen Mortuary at 1 p.m. with a viewing starting at noon.  Interment in the Fairview City Cemetery. Online condolences and live Zoom link at rasmussenmortuary.com.
