Ronald and Linda Hughes to celebrate 50th anniversary

Ronald Hughes and Linda Joyce Maughan met at the local drug store, Success Pharmacy, in Salt Lake City in 1966. They were married on March 13, 1967 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

Ron has been a lifelong student, his quest for knowledge has enhanced his life. He worked as a custodian to the LDS church serving the facilities around Sanpete area for 18 years. At the same time, he was a volunteer EMT. He returned to college in 1995 earning a degree as a medical lab technician from Weber State in 1997. He was employed by ARUP Medical Labs for 10 years before retiring. As a retiree, he served his community, for another seven years, as a crossing guard for Ephraim Elementary School.

Linda, mother of three, perfected her culinary skills as a baker at both Snow College and Weber State for a combined time of over 37 years. Over the years she has enjoyed quilting, completing dozens of blankets for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoys gardening and maintains a lovely array of flowers throughout the year. Her gardens provide colorful bouquets of tribute to passed family members each Memorial Day. She still tends to her vegetable garden and continues to fill the pantry and freezer with canned, fresh produce to eat throughout the year. She has perfected her methods of preserving fruit and all the grandchildren look forward to her care packages of apricot, peach, plum, and raspberry jam.  She is currently serving as the ward librarian which she enjoys.

As a couple, Ron and Linda have spent countless hours digitizing census reports (indexing) from around the world.  Their combined effort has assisted thousands in correctly tracking genealogy and is used by both the church and multiple software companies. They also work with Sanpete County Jail inmates teaching Indexing skills. In their “free” time they enjoy camping and riding their wheelers throughout the numerous mountain trails of Utah and having family gatherings.

Ronald and Linda are parents to Laurie Mork (Scott), Vicki Christensen (Rick), and Michael Hughes (fiance, Jessika). They have eight grandchildren: Jason Mork (Amy), Brittany and Anika Mork, Kolby Christensen, and Zachary, Andrew, Jamie, and Preston Hughes. As of yet, they have one great- grandchild: Jack Bent Mork.
