MT. PLEASANT—Time in a hot, dry sauna, followed by dumping a bucket of cold water on oneself is regarded as a beneficial health practice in Finland.

A new recreation development in Mt. Pleasant offers Sanpete residents the same experience.

And during a Summer Solstice Party Saturday from noon to midnight, residents will have a chance to experience everything Mumma’s Sauna Village has to offer.

The goal of owners, Brent and Tina Geddes, is to replicate a number of aspects of Scandinavian culture for a population descended from Scandinavians. The fact that Tina is a native Fin helps the couple make their village authentic.

Their 1-acre Sauna Village at 598 W. 100 South has four private sauna structures, which are heated by burning wood to 200 degrees. It also has an ice room where the temperature is 25 degrees.

The typical time in the sauna, Brent Geddes says, is 1 hours, with several breaks to cool off, either with a visit to the ice room, or dousing yourself with one of the buckets of cold water kept near the sauna buildings.

Other attractions during the Solstice Party will include maypole dancing, food trucks, vendor booths (such as one selling Nordic wreaths), hobby horses, a bonfire, yoga sessions and live music. And oh yes, a D.J. will be on site.

During regular business operation, the village is open 6 days per week from as early as 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To be sure a sauna is available, Brent Geddes asks patrons to call for an appointment.

A one-time pass is $15 per hour. Ten passes are $120. A monthly membership offering an unlimited number of visits during the month is $60.
