EPHRAIM—The Snow College commercial music bachelor’s program will offer a triple punch on April 7-9 at the Eccles Center as it features three different groups over three nights.

Studio Blue will perform a tribute to Michael Jackson on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jorgensen Concert Hall focusing mostly on his solo career.
The Next Gen group will perform a “glow show” on Friday, April 8, also at 7:30 p.m. at Jorgensen, using blue lighting with a glow-in-the-dark effect.
On Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m., the Spotlight group, along with vocalists Brian Stucki and Jennifer Madsen, will pay tribute to Steven Sondheim, famous lyricist of stage musicals, who died in 2021.
Madsen, who oversees the Spotlight group, is a widely known vocalist who does a master class at the college and teaches voice and songwriting. Stucki, who has performed in operas in Utah and abroad, is a vocal arts faculty member.

The three commercial music ensembles (CMEs) are configured to perform a variety of musical genres and include guitars, basses, keyboards and horns, as well as vocalists.
Studio Blue’s repertoire is a mainstream sound, while Next Gen focuses more on urban music styles such as rap, hip hop, and rhythm and blues.
The Spotlight group includes a jazz choir and is designed to do musical theater, says Vance Larsen, who oversees the commercial music program with Chris Pierce, a vocalist and composer who also does master classes at the college.
Michael Jackson, a famous rock n’ roll star whose solo career peaked in the 1980s, was the recipient of 13 Grammy Awards, as well as a Grammy Legend Award and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
In his youth, Jackson performed in the Jackson Five with his brothers. He passed away in 2009 at 50 years old. Some of his most famous hits include “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” and “Beat It.”
Stephen Sondheim was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honors, a Pulitzer Prize, eight Tony Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), an Academy Award, eight Grammy Awards, and the Olivier Special Award.
He is best known for writing the lyrics for West Side Story and Into the Woods.
The cost of tickets each night is $10 for adults, $8 for youth or seniors and $3 with a Snow student ID. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.snow.edu/music or by calling 283-7478.
