South Sanpete high schools join in Utah College Application Week

GUNNISON — The South Sanpete School District board learned that the counseling and GEAR UP departments are celebrating Utah College Application Week with a series of workshops in both high schools in the district.
GEAR UP, or Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a program in partnership with Utah State University that helps prepare students for college-level learning.
This is the second year the district is participating in Utah College Application Week. The district’s goal is to help every high school senior complete at least one viable college application, with an emphasis on students who would be the first in their families to attend college, low-income students or students who may not otherwise apply.
Workshops started in both schools on Monday, Nov. 14, beginning at noon at Gunnison Valley High School, and 8 a.m. at Manti High School. “Some students just can’t work their way through to complete the application process, and they get stalled, or for some reason the application is incomplete, then they get frustrated,” said Manti High counselor Kris Pogroszewski.
Each day there will be a different theme for workshops, including Rivalry Day, Show me the $$ Day and Application Day. Snow College is also helping provide
