William “Bill” Hughes Murray

William “Bill” Hughes Murray of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2017.
Bill was born in Vernal, Utah on April 12, 1916 to William Ashby Murray and Emma Elizabeth Hughes Murray. He was the second of six children. He grew up in the Vernal area and graduated from Uintah High School.
He married Audrey Mathis in 1938, they later divorced. Bill joined the military prior to the start of World War II. During the war he served in the Army in Europe and the South Pacific. After the war ended, he returned to the Salt Lake City area and became a master carpenter and a builder. He built and remodeled many homes in Utah, Idaho, and Washington.
Bill married Verena Bawden in 1948. They served missions for the LDS church in England, Belize, Honduras, and Peru. Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, growing crops on his small farms and raising sheep.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verena and a son Melvin Murray (Connie). He is survived by his children: William Dean Murray, Douglas Lynn Murray (Lin), Susan Hedquist (Greg), and step children Elaine Manfull (Richard), Thelma Howerton (Jim), and Brent Walton (Bonnie).
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at the Elysian Gardens (1075 E. 4580 South, Millcreek) at 11 a.m. with a viewing at 10:30 a.m.
