Allyson Taylor is Miss Gunnison Valley

GUNNISON—In a night filled with talent and artistry, five young women vied for the title of Miss Gunnison Valley last Saturday with the crown and $1,500 scholarship money going to Allyson Taylor.

Allyson, daughter of Jeremy and Marlo Taylor of Gunnison, who wore a fringed salmon-colored costume, displayed her dance talent with an upbeat jazz performance to a Beyoncé remix.

Her platform is, “Gunnison Valley Hometown Heroes.” Allyson’s mission will be to highlight a different group of community heroes each month, from teachers and farmers to first responders to correctional officers.

Through social media, community partnerships and personal visits, her goal is to inspire greater appreciation for the people who make our valley such a special place.

Seely Peterson, daughter of Aaron and Megan Peterson of Mayfield, was crowned first attendant. Her talent was also a jazz dance performance, this one to “Pon De Replay.” She will receive a $750 scholarship.

Kaydence Barclay, daughter of John and Markell Barclay of Mayfield, was named second attendant. Kaydence performed the vocal solo titled “All I Want.” She will receive a $500 scholarship.

Additional awards included Miss Congeniality, which went to Bryler Blackburn of Axtell, daughter of Brooke Blackburn and Tyler Blackburn, and Miss Photogenic, which went ot Seely Peterson (who was also named first attendant) Both awards included $100 scholarships.

Seely Peterson, who has a grade-point average of 3.9, also received a $500 scholarship, sponsored by Madsen Excavation.

The competition started out with a production number where all the contestants performed a dance to ”Best Years,” which was choreographed by Tenley Wanner, Miss Gunnison Valley 2025. 

The girls were judged in several categories throughout the evening, including on-stage questions, fitness, talent and evening wear. Each contestant had a personal interview during the day where they were able to spend 10 minutes with the panel of judges to talk more about themselves and their platforms.

Dallas Overly, master of ceremonies, contributed to the program with his vocal and piano performance, “Stuck on You” by Lionel Richie.

The audience was treated with a special performance from Ava Jensen, Miss Sanpete County 2025, who performed a contemporary vocal solo to “Dream” by Bishop Briggs.

As a final number, Tenley Wanner gave a heartfelt lyrical dance performance to “All These Little Goodbyes.”

During her final walk, Tenley told the crowd, “Thank you for the ways that you have supported me all year. For the kindness in passing moments, the encouragement at events, the familiar faces in crowds and every interaction that made this year feel so meaningful.

“I have grown up here in Gunnison Valley, and writing this now, I realize even more how deeply this place has shaped me. It’s in the school hallways I walked through my entire life, the events I grew up attending, and the people whose faces have become so familiar…You all feel like family.”

Ann Childs, pageant chair, thanked supporters of the pageant. “We want to extend our deepest thanks to the local businesses, families, and community members who continue to support this program,” she said. “…It’s because of you that we’re able to provide opportunities for growth, confidence and leadership. We are so grateful to be part of a valley that continually shows up with heart and hometown pride.”
