Moroni breathes new life into Mudd Boggs arena

MORONI—About 25 volunteers were able to clean up the one-time Mudd Boggs arena in Moroni in half the expected time during what was billed as Service Project Day April 18.
According to Councilmember Cherrie Green, the volunteers picked up garbage, cut down weeds and removed aged barbed wire to launch an effort to convert the arena to a multipurpose recreation area.
“We had planned on 4 hours but because we had the manpower there, we were able to get it done in 2-1/2,” Green said.
She said the next step is applying for a planning grant from the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. She hopes the grant will be awarded by July.
After that, she anticipates it will take about a year for a consulting company to produce a plan for repurposing the area and for the city to bring in grants to implement the plan.
Green especially wanted to thank students and leaders from Compass Academy, a nearby group home; and staff from Sunrise Engineering, which has done extensive work for the city, for their contributions to the cleanup.
