Ramone leads Manti past Canyon View
MANTI—No. 3 Manti closed the regular season with a 9-0 loss to No. 2 Union at home Monday, May 4, as the Lady Templars waited for the release of the UHSAA 3A playoff bracket.
Manti’s offense was held in check as Union senior Haylee Moynier tossed a no-hitter, leaving the Templars without a hit in 21 at-bats.
Moynier struck out 18 of the 21 batters she faced across seven innings, issued no walks and allowed no Manti runner to reach base on a hit.
Manti managed only one baserunner, Chloe Olson, who reached on an error, and finished with a .000 team batting average. Olson, Hallee Barnes and Aidali Orozco each struck out as the Templars combined for 17 strikeouts at the plate.
In the circle, Manti starter Orozco took the loss, surrendering four runs, two earned, on seven hits over four innings. Danie Alder followed with three innings of relief, allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits. Defensively, Manti committed three errors and posted a .897 fielding percentage.
Lady Templars squeeze past Canyon View in Cedar City
Savannah Ramone went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to power Manti to an 11-9 road win over Canyon View on Tuesday, April 28.
Ramone reached base in all five plate appearances, finishing with a 1.500 slugging percentage and a 2.100 on-base plus slugging percentage to anchor a Manti lineup that batted .375 as a team. Manti collected 12 hits, including four doubles and Ramone’s home run, while drawing four walks.
Paislee Clark went 2-for-4 with two doubles, and Carlie Rasmussen added a 2-for-3 day with a double and two walks. Aidali Orozco went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Chloe Olson finished 2-for-5 with two runs. Danie Alder drove in two runs, and Hallee Barnes scored twice while drawing a walk and stealing a base. Brooke Peterson reached base twice, with a hit and a walk.
Orozco picked up the win in the circle, pitching 6 2/3 innings and striking out six. She allowed 10 hits, nine runs, six earned, and three walks, surrendering one home run over 31 batters faced. Her final line produced a 6.30 ERA.
Maisy Brady took the loss for Canyon View, throwing seven innings and allowing 11 hits, 11 runs, six earned, and four walks while striking out three. She faced 38 Manti batters and gave up the home run to Ramone, finishing with a 6.00 ERA.
Manti outhit Canyon View 12-11 and finished with one fewer error, committing three errors to Canyon View’s four. Clark recorded 10 total chances with seven putouts, and the Manti defense turned three double plays.
