Badgers soccer team battle back to take 3-2 win over Lizards

The Snow College Badger Men’s Soccer team escaped with a 3-2 win on Saturday after falling behind and then battling back against the Lizards of Truckee Meadows Community College.

The victory gave them a 1-0 start to the 2021 season.

The match against Salt Lake Community College scheduled for Thursday was cancelled by SLCC due to COVID. The Bruins are ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Snow College used the extra time to prepare for the Lizards but gave up a first half goal to trail at the half 1-0.

“It’s not easy in soccer to come from behind,” said Coach Charles Long. “I don’t like the fact that we were behind, but I really like the fact that we didn’t get discouraged and that we were able to battle back for the win.”

Fabrice Aiken scored two goals for the Badgers and Lockie Fay scored the game winner with two minutes left in regulation.

“It would’ve been easy to run out the clock and play of overtime,” said Long. “But our guys kept up the pressure and made the opportunity pay off with a late goal.”

The Badgers played the second half with a lot more energy and kept up the pressure on the Lizards.

“We have some work to do,” said Long. “We need to continue to improve and play with a lot more intensity and keep up the pressure on the opponents.”

The Badgers will be at home again this week with matches on Friday against the College of Southern Nevada and on Saturday vs. USU-Eastern.
