MT. PLEASANT –Ballroom dancers from Brigham Young University along with ballroom dancers from Sanpete County are putting on a free showcase this Saturday, May 21 at 5 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant North Stake Center, 461 N. 300 West.

Jennifer Boekweg and her partner Justin Strommen are performing together during a recent ballroom dance competition.
The showcase is organized by Jennifer Boekweg of Mt. Pleasant, who has been organizing dance classes and performances in Sanpete County while studying ballroom dance at BYU.
When Boekweg was 13 years old, she was introduced into the world of ballroom dance and studied it for two years while attending a charter school in Provo.
When Boekweg transferred to North Sanpete High School, she found that there were no ballroom dance resources locally. Rather than travel to Utah County, where all the high schools offer ballroom dance instruction, she decided to teach what she had learned in the Mt. Pleasant area, resulting in her program growing to include community classes, performances and instruction at community events.
The showcase performance on May 21 will be the culmination of her most recent dance workshop in Mt. Pleasant.
Boekweg says the demand for ballroom dance in Sanpete County is growing. She has kept costs of her program affordable. If you want to contribute to building the ballroom dance program here in the county, Boekweg is accepting donations for costumes, building rentals, and other costs.
