MANTI—A Manti City business is getting recognition for a flawless safety record.

Barclay Mechanical received a Perfect Safety Record Award on Sept. 2, 2021 for the 2020 year from the Utah Safety Council. Barclay was one of 29 companies in Utah who received this award based on zero recordable OSHA injuries, illnesses or days away from work.

“I don’t think everyone realizes how proud we are of our men when we have a zero-recordable-injury year,” said Ken Barclay, co-owner of Barclay Mechanical. “Our line of work is among the most dangerous and it takes consistent diligence to safety protocols to keep our men safe.”

Barclay Mechanical was first recognized for its perfect safety record at the Utah Safety Council’s annual meeting and awards ceremony that was held virtually Aug. 13, 2021. Owner Ken Barclay and Senior Field Superintendent Russell Sanders went to the Utah Safety Council office in Salt Lake City a few weeks later to pick up their award.

Companies that are required to adhere to OSHA standards and training are eligible to be considered for the perfect safety award. That would include the construction industry, processing industry, health care industry and more.

Barclay Mechanical co-owner John Barclay explains that he is honored to be part of the perfect-record safety list because of the high potential for accidents to happen in their industry. He said his welders work with heat around 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit each day, work with acid or fragments that could get into the eye, weld from an anchor suspension system, or weld in refineries with potentially flammable gases.

Barclay Mechanical hasn’t had a recordable OSHA injury for three years.

“Our goal at Barclay Mechanical is to send our men home to the family they live and work for in the first place,” said Scott Barclay Co-owner of Barclay Mechanical. “We don’t slack on safety at Barclay Mechanical.”

Barclay Mechanical is a heavy industrial general contractor, offering heavy-duty welding and fabrication services. Established in 1980, Barclay has become a leading mechanical contractor—working all over the country in the energy, food processing, production and agricultural sectors.
