GUNNISON—Heading into the thick of region play, things aren’t looking great for the Bulldogs.

The Gunnison Valley boys’ basketball team lost both their region games last week by considerable margins, falling on the road last Wednesday to Duchesne, 46-28, then losing at home last Friday to Millard, 55-38. The losses extended Gunnison losing streak to four games and gave them an 0-2 start to Region 16.

Gunnison’s overall record fell to 3-8 on the season, with their only win against a 2A team coming against Merit Academy.

The Bulldogs quickly fell behind against Duchesne and were down 26-11 at the half. Senior Jack Hansen led the Bulldogs with seven points.

Against Millard, one of the toughest teams in 2A this year, the Bulldogs looked solid in the first quarter, tying up the Eagles, 15-15, after eight minutes. Nevertheless, Millard pulled ahead in the second quarter and led, 31-23, at the half. The lead only grew as the game progressed.

Senior Aidan O’Neal led the Bulldogs in scoring for the first time in his career with 13 points, a career-high. Hansen backed him up with 10 points.

The Bulldogs’ schedule doesn’t get any easier. They’ll be at home to face North Sevier this Wednesday before traveling to take on North Summit this Friday.
