Eric Wayne Sawyer (aka Emma) passed away on July 28, 2022 at the age of 20 after losing a long and hard battle with mental illness.

Eric Wayne Sawyer (aka Emma)

They were born on Dec. 7, 2001 to Troy and Vanessa Sawyer, and cared greatly about social justice and stood strongly in support of the minority, always showing their pride for the communities they were a part of.

Their sense of humor never failed to brighten our days. They had perfect comedic timing and always knew the exact combination of words and actions to make us laugh. They had a natural affinity for military history, being affectionately nicknamed our “Little Bombardier” after being born on Pearl Harbor Day.

They expressed themself through drawings, miniature model building and fiction writing, all of which resulted in true works of art. They began opening up and came out as transgender in the last year of their life, identifying as Emma. Though they deeply struggled through this time, they were the most alive they’d ever been. They truly became themselves and didn’t let anyone stop them.

Eric/Emma is survived by their parents, Troy and Vanessa, three older siblings, Todd, Amanda and Adam (wife Gina), nephew and niece Matthew, and Claire, as well as grandparents Stan and Betty Sawyer, and Valeen (Larry deceased) Brown, and cat Cinder.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Ephraim 9th Ward, 765 South 100 East. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www. maglebymortuary.com.

Matthew 7:1-2: “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye met it shall be measured to you again.”
