Both Fountain Green and Spring City are seeking new justice court judges now that Ivo Peterson has retired as the judge for the two towns.

Both towns are accepting applications for a new judge, says Geoffrey Fattah, communications director for the Utah State Courts.

To be considered, candidates must be at least 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and a Utah resident for at least three years and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

Candidates must also be a resident of the county where the court is located, or an adjacent county, for at least six months.

The annual salary for the Fountain Green Justice Court judge position is between $3,181 and $5,725.80 with no benefits. For additional information about Fountain Green, contact Michelle Walker at 445-3453 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The annual salary for the Spring City Justice Court judge position is $4,032 with no benefits. For additional information about Spring City, contact Lyndsey Zeeman at 462-2244.

The deadline for applications is Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at 5 p.m. Applications should be sent to the attention of Melisse Stiglich, Administrative Office of the Courts, P.O. Box 140241, Salt Lake City, UT, 84114-0241.

Under Utah law, each town must appoint a Justice Court Nominating Commission. The commission submits three to five nominees to their mayor within 45 days of their first meeting.            The mayors have 30 days to make a selection. The Utah Judicial Council must then certify the selection.
