Four Badgers receive regional honors at Richfield tournament

RICHFIELD—Four Snow College Badgers received all-region recognition following Region 18 National Junior College Athletic Association tournament last weekend at the Sevier Valley Center.

Matt Norman made the first team; Travis Wagstaff  made the second team; and Ross Reeves and Tredyn Christensen both received honorable mentions.

Nielsen said Norman is one of the most improved players he has coached in his nine years at Snow.

“He’s become a complete player,” Nielson said. “Hopefully somebody picks him up because he’s a good player.”

Nielson also noted that Norman had also improved as a person.

“Last year, he was kind of in the background and letting everyone else decide. [This year], he stepped up [to] be a leader for this team. He’s one of two sophomores, so he took control.

“He was very patient with [freshmen], taught them and helped them, and helped us be a better team. Rather than being a teammate, he was a leader for us.”

Wagstaff, who has received a scholarship offer from the University of North Dakota, has led the Badgers “in a lot of ways” this year and been a “good influence” for the team, Nielson said.

Reeves has been one of Snow’s best players “a lot of the year,” Nielson said.

Christensen hasn’t been full strength during parts of the season, “so it’s good that he could be recognized for the player that he is,” Nielson said.
